Territory of Art is an international project developed in the framework of the "Vilnius - European Capital of Culture 2009" programme. Territory of Art is a new space dedicated to creativity, initiated at the University of Vilnius Children's Hospital. The project asks an essential question: Can Art Change the World Around It After Having Changed the Walls of the Hospital? From 14 to 15 June 2009, twenty young European artists will get together in the framework of several workshops devoted to Lithuanian culture, the reading of theoreticians and critics, as well as workshops with Lithuanian participants. All the works of art thus created will be given to the Children's Hospital.
The project also includes an International Conference that took place on 1 and 2 June 2009 in Vilnius, entitled "Art for Health: Experiences and Perspectives". European Regional Forum, 4 June 2009

The Association for Cultural and International Development and the EUROMEDINCULTURE network have launched a consultation system in order to influence cultural policies in Europe. A series of Regional Forums have been initiated throughout Europe and the second Regional Forum took place on 4 June 2009 in Marseille, France. With a view to encouraging debate beforehand, a questionnaire was put on line: "give your opinion on the place of culture in your own future". A follow-up system with a group of scientists enabled an accurate restitution of these citizens' declarations.
The main European Forum taking place on 2 and 3 July 2009 in Montpellier, France, will close the phase of meetings and debates with the general public, decision-makers, professionals and specialists. The partners, the Steering Committee and the Scientific Committee, will then produce a Synthetic Report,

Conference on Art, Culture and Globalization, 10 June 2009

If globalization encourages cultural exchange, mixing and blending of communities, meetings and dialogues, it also renders economic disparities more visible and brings with it a great deal of incomprehension. How can art and artists resist, contribute, and work in this context and at the same time keep their own territorial base? With what issues are artists and culture professionals confronted? How can one continue to be a carrier of reflection and ideas in environments that can become threatening? What avenues in the cultural sector can be followed towards new models (including economic models), reconciling solidarity and development?
To take up this theme, the NACRe has given carte blanche to Yves Michaud, philosopher and Director of the University of All Knowledge, who will give a conference entitled "Art, Culture and Globalization" on 10 June 2009 at the Théâtre Nouvelle Génération, Lyon, France.

Call for Projects and Participation in Na-Mur

L'Isolat is launching a Call for Participation to all cultural operators, associations and other socio-cultural organizations for the Na-Mur event, initiated in the framework of the anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
Imagine a wall being constructed in one night (from 23 to 24 October 2009) and dividing the town of Namur, Belgium, in two. Imagine that this symbolic splitting of a town into two will be the occasion for several hundreds of participants, to ask questions about separation and walls - real and symbolic - that continue to exist in the world. Imagine that the circulation of people in the centre of towns pass through Check Points. Imagine that you give life to this wall!
How? By presenting animations to passers-by, tourists, and visitors, and bringing your contribution to the dressing of the structure (the wall itself), by presenting or programming events linked to themes conceived by Na Mur (documentary cycles, concerts, shows, exhibitions, debates, colloquies) or by suggesting any original idea for animation, events or group participation.

Call for participation

In the framework of the performance "Long Time Passing", the Halles de Schaerbeek is launching a Call for Participation.
80 flowered dresses are suspended in helium balloons and twenty women of all ages and diverse origins sing the lullabies of their childhood. Guided by the English artists Anne Bean, they meticulously cut up the patterns of the multicoloured dresses. During the day, the ground of the large hall becomes covered with a giant carpet of flowers and lastly, the dresses fly away. The artist, particularly touched by the theme of immigration and attachment to roots, already realized this installation/performance in England and in Iraq. Fascinated by the force of these exchanges, she chose Brussels and its multiculturalism for the 3rd edition of "Long Time Passing".
Do you like to sing? Would you like to participate in an original artistic project bringing together 20 women of all ages and diverse backgrounds? Join us on 14 June 2009 at the Halles de Schaerbeek, Brussels, for Long time Passing, this installation/performance of six hours duration.
The participants should also be available in the evening o 12 June, and the afternoon of 13 June in (times to be confirmed).

"Ma proche banlieue" (My Nearby Neighbourhood) 26 May - 11 October 2009

For the last 30 years, Patrick Zachmann, photographer at Magnum Photos, has been working on themes of identity, memory and immigration, and is taking a sensitive look at French neighbourhoods.
From 26 May to 11 October 2009, Patrick Zachmann presents his photographs in the exhibition "Ma Proche Banlieue" at the Cité Nationale de l'histoire de l'immigration (National Centre for the History of Immigration).
He captures moments in life, between laughs and tears, between dreams and reality, and men and women talk about themselves in a difficult urban universe. Since Patrick Zachmann's first investigation, the neighbourhood has been metamorphosed; the neighbourhoods north of Marseille to la Courneuve in the Paris area, from Sarcelles to Villers-le-Bel, passing through Evry or Dunkirk. His photographer's eye also.
Far from clichés, this exhibition retraces these meetings in 163 photographs, of which nearly half are unpublished. Eleven sequences scan the journey through the exhibition: Vu d'ailleurs (Seen from Somewhere Else), No Man's Land, Paysages de la banalité (Banal Landscapes), Portaits de famille (Family Portraits), Jardins ouvriers (Workers' Allotments),La Pose (The Pose), Lieux de Prière (Places to Pray), Maliens, Ici et là-bas (Malians, Here and Over There), Quartiers nord de Marseille -Neighbourhoods North of Marseille, Implosion, Enquête d'identité (Quest for an Identity).
